A Proof Of Attendance Protocol, or POAP, is a digital version of this type of memorabilia in the form of an NFT. A POAP NFT is a specific category of NFTs that proves you attended a particular event or experience. POAP NFTs are increasing in popularity.
POAPs can prove that you attended either a virtual or a physical event. The POAP ecosystem is known as “an ecosystem for the preservation of memories.” Over time, it could become that if you started a collection of POAPs to document your physical and virtual life. Think of collecting a POAP as similar to checking in to a place on social media.
How To Launch A Proof Of Attendance Protocol (POAP)
Anyone planning an event can decide to mint a POAP NFT through the POAP website. Since many scam versions of Proof Of Attendance Protocols have developed, requirements exist for every POAP NFT.
- The POAP minting must take place under the official POAP smart contract address
- It has to include metadata related to a time or date period, up to one year long.
- It has to include an image.
Creating and launching a POAP isn’t too tricky. Here are the steps to create one:

- Go to the official POAP website at: https://poap.xyz/
- Click on the blue text to “Create your first POAP.” If you have questions, you can read the getting started guides.
- You will see a form that looks like this. You will need to fill out the information requested in the form.
- Fill out what you are commemorating with the POAP, what you want people to remember about the POAP and what it is about, and where the POAP event was, either virtual or in a specific city and country.
- Next, enter the start, end, and expiry date for your POAP drop. Enter your email and a website if you have a website you would like POAP attendees to visit. Next, choose the file that includes the image/artwork for your POAP. Remember, all POAPs must include an image.
- Copy the edit code. The edit code is essential because you will need it to make changes to the POAP later.
- Finally, list the number of mint links that you need. If you will use links to distribute the POAP, put the number of codes in that space. If you use a secret word or a QR code, you can leave the number as zero (more on this later). Remember to Save.
- Click the hamburger menu in the top right corner of the POAP website and click “Manage Secret Words”. This is if you decide to use a secret word to distribute the POAP. Search for your event by name or by event ID. The event ID is in the email that comes to your inbox with your POAP. Enter your edit code. Finally, click “Submit Authentication.” Then select the number of secret words you need for your POAP. The exact process applies to the QR code distribution option.
Approval For Your Proof Of Attendance Protocol
The POAP team manually approves all POAPs. When you create an event, you must have an appropriate amount of codes available for the type of event you are making.
If you want to speed up getting approved, join the official POAP discord server. Once you are in the discord server, scroll down to find “Approval Requests.” Follow the same format that other requests are using or search through the pinned messages for the structure.
