In January 2019, Leinonen’s artwork “McJesus”, a crucified Ronald McDonald, caused a riot in Haifa, Israel. Hundreds of Christian protesters gathered by the Haifa Museum of Art throwing stones at the police, as they were blocked from entering the museum to remove the statue.
See? We told you he is a fantastic guy.
The popular Finnish visual artist is doing an exclusive collaboration with Swappable. As part of the agreement, which was fortunately concluded without any bloodshed, Jani will offer a unique digital drop of his one-of-one animated artwork, to be unveiled on launch.
Jani likes to keep himself busy. His latest gig involves the Stalla Madulain project where he transformed the Stalla Madulain gallery, a 500 years old barn close to St. Moritz, into a ‘chapel of remorse‘. The main piece is now in the Dolder Grand Hotel in Zurich. Once again his work stirs some features such as one of his images which depicts Cinderella in a questionable position.
Jani Leinonen graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki in 2002 and his works have been exhibited widely in Finland and internationally, i.e. at the Nordic Pavillion at the 53rd Venice Biennial, Galerie Gmurzynska, Wilhelm Hack Museum Ludwigshafen, Frankfurter Kunstverein, ARoS Aarhus Art Museum, and Haifa Art Museum.
The Jani Leinonen collaboration is just the opening act, with many interesting announcements coming up soon. For this featured drop, art connoisseurs and NFT addicts and aficionados will be given a three day window to place their bid.
Keep your eyes glued on the Swappable Twitter or Telegram channels to be notified when the drop goes live.
